Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) is planning to set up desalination plant in Mangaluru. The company has received permission from the Karnataka government to set up a desalination plant while feasibility studies, along with studies for environment impact assessment, are being done. The project is expected to be commissioned in 2019-20. It may be mentioned here that the water crisis in Mangaluru had resulted in partial shut down of the units of the refinery complex during April and May last year.
